Ideas clave
I cook in the kitchen (cocino en la cocina).
- There is se usa con una sola cosa: There is a bed. There are se usa con dos o más: There are two tables.
Isn't es is not, y aren't es are not.
- Para preguntar si hay algo: Is there a lamp? (una cosa) y Are there tables? (varias). Respuestas cortas: Yes, there is. y No, there isn't. Yes, there are. y No, there aren't.
- Para preguntar dónde está algo: Where is the ball? (una cosa) y Where are the books? (varias). Se responde con It's… si es una cosa y con They are… si son varias: It's on the table. They are on the sofa.
- Las preposiciones de lugar dicen dónde está algo: in (dentro de), on (sobre, encima y tocando), under (debajo de) y next to (al lado de). The cat is on the bed. The ball is under the table. The lamp is next to the sofa. The books are in the bedroom.
- There is y there are dicen que algo existe en un lugar: There is a cat in the garden. It's y They are dicen dónde está algo que ya conoces: It's under the table. No se dice «It is a cat in the garden» para decir que hay un gato.
